Summer Institute
The next Summer Institute will be held June 4 - June 29, 2012.  Applications will be available for download in January.
Objectives of the 2012 Institute
Institute participants will:
- become writers themselves.
- explore effective literacy strategies in a collaborative and collegial setting.
- study current research in the theory and practice of teaching writing.
- demonstrate a particular strategy that they have had success with in the classroom.
- develop this strategy into workshops for sharing with other teachers.

The 2012 Institute Program

The NSUWP Summer Institute will take place on the Natchitoches Campus of Northwestern State University beginning June 4 and concluding June 29, 2012.  Sessions will run Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch.  (Two of the four weeks will only be four day weeks to allow participants more personal research and writing time). Participants will also attend a Pre-Institute dinner in May and a Post-Institute brunch in late summer. Other professional development opportunities will be available to Institute participants throughout the school year.

Graduate Credit and Tuition

Institute participants will earn six hours of graduate credit in English or Education for their work in the Summer Institute. Tuition for the 2012 Summer Institute will be covered by NSUWP.

Stipends

Upon completing the program, Institute participants will receive a modest stipend. Textbooks will be provided at the Pre-Institute meeting.
